PUBG Black Budget: Krafton releases Q3 earnings report and the publisher aims to launch the new game in the second half of 2024

This makes it two of Krafton’s extraction games to watch in 2024.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) needs developer Crafton Koperk’s speed to work. The company’s Q3 2023 earnings report reveals that the game is likely to be called PUBG Black Velocity and that it describes another 2024 release date.

PUBG Black Budget

Earlier this year, Krafton’s FY22 earnings reports made the game public, with Krafton expecting the game to be released in 2024 or 2025. This new information certainly reduces the launch window to a narrower timeline PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) Black Budget is an upcoming PvPvE shooter from the studio behind BGMI.

The latest update, spotted by Games Horizon, also revealed an internal concept art for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) Black Budget that features an abandoned underground facility. This upcoming game is also confirmed to be an extraction shooter, but it is anybody’s guess at the moment what the game’s association would be with the PUBG branding, apart from the fact that it is being developed by PUBG Studios. The report also states that the PUBG title could be included for internal reference as well, so it’s best to wait for Krafton’s official word on this for now.

In Krafton’s previous FY22 report that revealed the game, it said that the upcoming project is an “ever-changing PvPvE open-world” so it could be another battle royale game. but with elements of player vs enemy gameplay.

Dark and Darker Mobile

Speaking of extraction games, Krafton is also planning to release Dark and Darker Mobile soon. This is an extraction-based game with RPG elements. This game is a mobile port of Dark and Darker, developed by Ironmace. Krafton signed an exclusive global licensing deal with Ironmace in August to bring IP to mobile, an ecosystem in which they are experts, given the success of BGMI New State Mobile and Road to Valor: Empires. Dark and Darker Mobile is scheduled for a launch in the first half of 2024.

The first concept poster for Black Budget was also revealed during the earnings report, giving off a post-apocalyptic vibe. The image shows an underground facility that has been taken over by nature’s roots and a giant tree covers most of the image. It’s worth noting that nothing is currently known about the title other than the image, so the synopsis of the fable is anyone’s guess at this point.

Black Budget will probably have many aspects of the popular battle royale. Last year’s financial report noted that it takes place in an “evolving PvPvE open world”. Crafton has confirmed that the game will launch on PC, consoles and mobiles. Of course, it is unclear if this includes last-gen consless.

The publisher has several other internal projects in the pipeline, with the first soft launch beginning in FY2024 The next Subnautica is apparently set to arrive in the first half of 2025 and is highly anticipated by the community. Additionally, the action-adventure project Gold Rush is aiming to launch in the first half of 2025. Some other titles are also briefly included, such as Project Windless and some unnamed.

We recommend taking Crafton’s new developments with a grain of salt. With its release slated for next year, the project seems to be progressing quite well. However, we haven’t seen any kind of official footage yet. There’s a possibility that internal delays will push the title to 2025, but there’s no way to tell until Crafton reveals more about the secret entry.

After towering over the battle royale genre for a while, it remains unclear whether Crafton will be able to step into the already-dominant extraction shooter genre. Giants like Escape from Tarkov have already set a standard for hardcore fans. So Crafton may have to adopt the same hardcore approach to compete on equal footing or go for a simpler style to garner critical acclaim amid a graveyard of many failures.
